Join our experienced instructors Eoin Madigan and Dom Keogh for a one day in depth “Introduction to Lime Mortars Workshop”. This workshop is aimed at upskilling all involved in the use and specification of lime mortars in the most up to date and modern theory practice. It is open to participants of all levels from enthusiasts to home owners, and practitioners to build professionals.
Over the course of the day, participants will learn why we use all lime mortars, how to identify historic lime mortars, and how to mix and use all lime mortars from air limes to hydraulic and hybrid limes. We will also be carrying out a small lime burn, where participants will then learn how to make hot lime mixes, white washes and pointing mixes.
Working on a 180 year old farmhouse situated near the town of Ennistymon, Co. Clare, participants will be able to see for themselves the damage caused by countless failed building techniques carried out on solid wall constructions over the last century. Thankfully we now have a far better understanding of how these structures breath and the importance of using lime materials when repairing them. Numbers will be kept to a minimum as to allow plenty of one-on-one interation with our instructors.
Light lunch and teas and coffees will be provided.
Full PPE must be worn as it is December, wrap up warm!
