Music lovers in Clare are in for a treat when popular Bellharbour singer Ann Kirrane performs in Liscannor this coming Sunday August 18th. The gig is presented by Anam Music as part of their series of intimate evening gigs that are growing in popularity among music lovers in Clare and beyond.
Ann Kirrane comes from a long Clare musical tradition. Her father, Chris Droney, is one of the most respected concertina players in Ireland and Ann learned concertina from him and her grandfather Jim. Her teenage summers were spent in Lisdoonvarna playing music with her father Chris, Tommy Peoples, Kitty Linnane and Paddy Mullins of the Kilfenora Céili Band. She won the All-Ireland Fleadh Ceóil three times playing the concertina.
On moving to Tuam, Ann met and married the late Noël Kirrane, a musician, teacher, choirmaster and musical director who devoted his life to the promotion of music in young and old.
Ann released her first solo album ‘One Small Star’, in 2012 to critical acclaim. Two years later, she released an EP, ‘In the Bleak Mid Winter’ as a dedication to her father on the occasion of his 90th birthday and in Summer 2016 she launched ‘Behind yon Mountain’ at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Ennis.
As well as being the headline act at festivals in Kilfenora, Doolin, Clarecastle & Doonbeg, Ann has also been invited to perform at festivals in California, Portland, Texas and Straubing, Germany.
Ann performs at 7pm on Sunday August 18th the Cliffs of Moher hotel as part of the Anam Music series of gigs organised by Pat Ryan and Eoin O’Neill.
