Scariff Community Garden is a hidden gem in East Clare and at the heart of good, clean local food. With a sheltered smallholders market on every Friday from Summer to Christmas, offering the best of locally grown seasonal and artisan produce, there is no better place to meet local growers and producers and sample the actual taste of East Clare.
With ample winding paths along which to stroll, this is a perfect location to have a picnic, idle away time hunting a rare find in the second hand book store, or enjoy a seasonal vegetarian meal in the adjoining cafe where the food from the garden ends up on the plates. Tucked away behind the Garden Cafe on Main Street, a number of quirky mosaics cover the walls and a cosy brick-fired pizza hut is fired up weekly in the summer months with hot, fresh food served with the best local ingredients available. You’re invited to enjoy your meal on the round eclectic picnic tables in the poet’s circle, overlooking Merlin’s Garden with its riot of herbs and colours. You can hide away in the Hazel dome, or feel inspired by the energy-saving and heat collecting low impact technologies which are dotted around the garden – sustainability in action. Bring your book, your art, or your instrument, with the option of sheltering from Irish rain.
The Sheltered barn area and stage offers an eclectic mix of activities from set dancing workshops to local bands playing at the different festival events over the year. Various events are held throughout the year, including pop-up bistros, cookery school events, story-telling and mini-barn theatre events.
