Visit the world renowned Roadside Tavern in the North Clare village of Lisdoonvarna, gateway to The Burren. Close to the Cliffs Of Moher, The Burren, the Aran Islands, Doolin, Ballyvaughan and Lahinch. It has become the central meeting place for many people for well over a hundred years.
The Roadside Tavern has been run by the Curtin Family since 1893 making it one of the oldest pubs in the Burren area. The current proprietor is Peter Curtin who continues the high standards of hospitality and service set by his grandparents Christopher and Nora, and parents John and Mary.
Its famously laid-back atmosphere and guaranteed craic makes it as attractive to visitors as it is to the locals. It has a particular draw for the musicians of the region; at its summer peak, there is live music seven nights a week. The Roadside Tavern has been a legendary venue for traditional music for well over a 100 years. Many well-known names have entertained the patrons of the Roadside Tavern down through the years to the present. They include Christy Moore, Davy Spillane, Tommy Peoples, the Fureys, Seán Tyrrell, Christy Barry, Micko Russel, Mickaleen Conlon, Paul Dooley, Sharon Shannon and many more.
In summer, there are brilliant contemporary bands taking over the stage in the Roadside. They often come from far-away places like the United States, Australia and even Azerbaijan.
The Roadside Tavern serves the finest of Stouts, Ales and Lagers (three of which are being brewed in the Burren Brewery under the same roof), Wines and Whiskeys.
The award-winning food menu of Kieran’s Kitchen is filled with delicious dishes with a modern twist as well as innovative feasts. Pride of place is given to several dishes featuring Smoked Salmon from the family’s award-winning Burren Smokehouse. Try the Burren smoked fish platter which is served with organic leaves from nearby New Quay. The Burren Smokehouse is literally over the bridge and well worth a visit.
The Burren Storehouse is the brand new music and food venue, a place to watch sport events and more right next door to the Roadside Tavern!
Great food is offered in the Burren Storehouse including wood-fired artisan pizzas with amazing toppings; chargrilled foods from our indoor charcoal grill – the menu changes every night but it is always locally sourced ingredients like fish, shellfish, artisan local meats and poultry.
There is a variety of cocktails on offer and of course fresh from the microbrewery, the Burren Brewery, next door: Burren Black, Burren Gold and Burren Red.
