Lisdoonvarna, in North Clare, is Ireland's premier Spa town and is famous for its music and festivals. The village of Lisdoonvarna has some 16 pubs and a wide selection of hotel and guest accommodation. It is also on the fringe of the Burren National Park. Festivals are a feature of 'Lisdoon', the two premier ones being the September Festival - one of Europe's largest singles match-making festival of romance and the world barbecue championship.
Lisdoonvarna's famous Victorian Spa Complex and health Centre is set in an attractive parkland setting. The Spa's therapeutic mineral waters of sulphur, iron and magnesium have been dispensed since the 18th century, and the strong smelling sulphur water is served hot and cold in the pump. The source of the water can be viewed in the illuminated well. Lisdoonvarna is also home to the famous Burren Smokehouse.
