Corofin is only 16 km from County Clare’s attractive Atlantic Coast and the village is seen as the gateway to the beautiful Burren region. Corofin is located on the River Fergus and takes its name from an ancient fording place on the river. The hinterland around Corofin is renowned as the Clare Lakelands and Lake Inchiquin.

Corofin is a historical settlement built on the need for an estate village to service the requirements of the O Brien Barony of Inchiquin. As the village is part of the lower Burren region, Corofin has many distinctive native floras as well as the densest network of prehistoric tombs in the parish. The modern village hosts many tourist attractions and accommodation providers. The village also has many fine pubs and restaurants with most of the pubs providing musical entertainment.
