Alive Outside is delighted to announce the launch of Kilkee first Sports Festival from Monday the 23rd of August to Saturday the 28th of August. The week will start with former Munster and Irish Prop forward, Peter Bracken hosting a rugby camp for 11 to 19 year old boys & girls on Kilkee’s astro turf facility. Peter will be assisted by another former Irish International, John ‘Paco’ Fitzgerald and Super 14 Otago Highlanders utility back, Cory Brown. Peter’s camp runs from Monday to Friday, further info is at www.scrumdoctor.com.

The next part of the Kilkee Sports festival kicks off at 12pm on Saturday the 28th of August with Kilkee hosting a leg of the Alive Outside/ ITRA’s hugely successful beach tag series. This year’s beach tag series kicks off on Sandymount Strand, continues on to Clifden in Galway, Inchydoney in West Cork, Kilkee in Co. Clare and on to the grand final on Banna Beach, Tralee, Co. Kerry. Beach tag is a non contact sport which is a spin off of ITRA’s national summer leagues, played in 20 venues across Ireland. Beach tag is a mixed sport with squads of 12 players battling it out in a blitz style competition throughout the day. Kilkee’s beautiful horse shoe beach is a perfect location for beach tag. Beach tag’s after competition social reputation is well known. With Kilkee’s array of pubs and restaurants just 1 minute from the action, this leg of beach tag promises to be a highlight. Registration and further details are available at www.beachtag.ie.

The weekend of sport continues with Alive Outside’s inaugural Half marathon starting from the main street in Kilkee at 5:30 pm. Runners and walkers will set off from Main Street heading out past Kilkee beach, turning left on to Dunlicky Road and out along the famous Loop Head peninsula, a recent winner of the European Destination of Excellence for Aquatic Tourism Award. This is a fantastic opportunity for athletes from all over Ireland to savour the delights of this beautiful peninsula. Running in Ireland has never been more popular so a large field is expected. Further details about the half marathon are available at www.aliveoutside.ie.

The after party and presentations will take place in Kilkee’s excellent selection of pubs and restaurants. With so many sports enthusiasts in Kilkee for the weekend an electric atmosphere is guaranteed. We envisage that participants will avail of the excellent numerous activities in Kilkee and in its neighboring areas throughout their stay thereby delivering an economic impact to the area. A farmers market on the Sunday from 11 to 2pm with local craft and food available will be welcomed by participants. A contribution from registrations for the half marathon will be made to the Clare Crusaders Clinic.
