The Ballyvaughan Fanore Walking Club would like to invite you to the Burren Peaks Walking Festival. The festival weekend promises you a real taste of the Burren and offers guided hill and lowland walks varying in distance and grade catering for all walkers.
Wild Burren Eastern Peaks Grade A walk: Saturday Sept 24th This is a strenuous Grade A walk for very experienced walkers taking in several peaks across the Burren. Starting from Slievecarran, via Turlough mountain, The Seven Churches, Oughtmama Valley, Moneen & Aillwee peaks. This is a challenging route across rough, rugged limestone terrain with ascents over 1000 ft for the very experienced walker. Registration at 8 am at Base - Bus Depart at 8.30 am Walk starts at 9 am. - Walk Time minimum 8hrs + Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th Limited places available on all walks.
Wild Burren Western Peaks Grade A walk: Sunday Sept 25th This is a strenuous Grade A walk for very experienced walkers taking in several peaks across the Burren. Starting from Fanore at Ballyreen, via Slieve Elva mountain, Gleninagh & Black Head peaks, Feenagh Valley on to Cappanawalla. This is a challenging route across rough, rugged limestone terrain with ascents over 1100 ft for the very experienced walker. Registration at 8 am at Base - Bus Depart at 8.30 am Walk starts at 9 am. - Walk Time minimum 8hrs + Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th. Limited places available on all walks.
This year we have three B walks to choose from on both Saturday & Sunday, the same B walks will be on both days. No 1. Sea to Stone Grade B walk: This B walk for the experienced walker starts at Tra na Gaun, Fanore, and takes you along the cattle drovers trail to Cathair Dhuin Irghuis then Blackhead summit, descending Cappanawalla on your way back to base. This walk with gradual climbs to 900 ft is on limestone terrain and trail green road for the experienced walker. Registration at 9 am at Base - Bus Depart at 9.30 am. Walk starts at 10 am - Walk Time minimum 5hrs + Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th. Limited places available on all walks.
No 2. The Dangan Crest Grade B walk: This B walk for the experienced walker setting out from Ballyvaughan, takes you along the green road, ascending Dangan crest and Aillwee peak, by Gleninsheen, and descending down Ballyallaban on your way back to base. This walk with gradual climbs to 900 ft is on limestone terrain and trail green road for the experienced walker. Registration at 9 am at Base. Walk starts at 9.30 am - Walk Time minimum 4hrs + Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th. Limited places available on all walks.
No 3. Coast to Ridge Grade B walk: This B walk for the experienced walker leaves Ballyvaughan Village, along the shore front to Muckinish castle, ascending Muckinish Peak along Killoghil ridge before dropping to acres on your way back to base. This walk with gradual climbs to 700 ft is on limestone terrain, shore walking and trail green road for the experienced walker. Registration at 9 am at Base. Walk starts at 9.30 am - Walk Time minimum 5hrs + Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th.
The Rocks of the Burren Grade C walk: Saturday Sept 24th Saturday’s C walk, suitable for all regular walkers is family friendly. Your tour set off by coach from Base taking you into the heart of the Burren for an intrepid ramble on Mullach Mor. After the walk enjoy a sight seeing tour to Caherconnell stonefort and visitor centre, and on to Poulnabrone Dolmen before returning to base. This walk is on limestone terrain for the regular walker. Registration at 10.30 am at Base. Bus Departs at 11 am Walk time 2hrs plus sightseeing tour, Total 4hrs + Walk not suitable for pushchairs. Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th. Limited places available on all walks.
Wood Loop Stroll & Aillwee Adventure Grade C walk: Sunday Sept 25th Sunday’s C walk, suitable for all regular walkers is family friendly. Depart from Base taking the Wood Loop to Aillwee Cave. Here we see the Burren Birds of Prey, take in a tour of the Cave and see the Burren Gold Cheese being produced, before we continue on the Wood Loop stroll back to Ballyvaughan. This is an off road trail and green road walk for the regular walker. Registration at 10.30 am at Base - Walk starts at 11 am Walk time 2hrs plus visit to Aillwee Cave, Total 4hrs. Walk not suitable for pushchairs. Pre-Booking of walk essential before Sept 16th.
