The Irish Chamber Orchestra, Katherine Hunka Leader and Colin Dunne Dancer- FEET FIRST!Thursday 18 July in the Culturlann Sweeney , Kilkee at 8pm. (in association with Bord Gáis)
Katherine Hunka directs the ICO’s Feet First Tour which offers a kaleidoscopic range of music combining old with new sounds. Dancer Colin Dunne, is internationally renowned for his performances in Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground. Dunne leads the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s latest commission (a world premiere by Kinsale-born composer, Linda Buckley), from his feet! This visually captivating dance The Turn – Dance in Your Blood, was inspired by Icelandic poet, Rumi. Estonian pop-star-turned-composer Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Action - Passion – Illusion is a stunning work with warm string tones. Action resembles a Bartokian march. Passion is elegiac and begins slowly, becoming faster before reaching an electrifying conclusion. Illusion is hypnotic and its articulation is breath-taking. Dvořák's Op. 54 waltzes were part of a flurry of piano writing. He selected the first and fourth of the set of eight and arranged them for string orchestra. The result is a pair of charming, three-minute bonbons that inspired his student, Josef Suk. With echoes of Dvorák, Suk’s Serenade for Strings Op. 6, remains one of his best-loved works.
