Carran (or Carron)
‘The folklore and legends of Slievenaglasha Mountain’ with Patrick McCormack on 7th April, 2013 at 2pm @ the layby of Glencolumkill Hill, on Carron-Boston road (OS51 N309 W998).
Join us for April’s Burrenbeo Trust led by Patrick McCormack who has an in-depth knowledge of the folklore, the legends, the history and the culture of time bygone in the Carron Hills. Patrick himself is a poet, an organic farmer and part of the Farm Heritage Coop Tours. The walk will continue down to his house, better known as the ‘Father Ted’ house where people will have the chance to have a cuppa after a good walk.
There will be a €5 charge per person for the optional tea and scones. Walk starts at 2pm from the layby of Glencolumkill Hill, on Carron-Boston road (OS51 N309 W998).
This walk is open to everyone. However, it is free for Burrenbeo Trust Members and a donation of €5 is suggested from non-members. Directions From Corofin: Head out of Corofin towards Kilfenora on the R476. Take the right turn at Leamaneh Castle (sign posted to Ballyvaghan and Carran). After roughly a couple of kilometres take the right turn sign posted Carran. Pass through Carran and take the right hand turn past the school sign posted to the Burren Perfumery. Continue on this road for c.4km until you arrive at a large layby on the left hand side. Park here.
From Kinvara: Take the N67 to Bellharbour and turn left here. At the next T-junction turn right. Follow this road for roughly 9Km to Carran. Just before you go through Carran take the left hand turn past the school, sign posted to the Burren Perfumery. Continue on this road for c.4km until you arrive at a large layby on the left hand side. Park here.
