"Memories, Dreams and Impressions" by Lori de Carteret Sheehan

Born in Guernsey in 1956,
Lori De Carteret Sheehan left the island at the age of 9 to live in
Africa with an aunt, an artist, and has been expanding her horizons ever
since, leading a full and challenging life.

Having left school
without qualifications at 15 she fought for and won a place at
Bournemouth & Poole College of Art based on the strength of her
portfolio, a placement she had to forgo due to unforeseen circumstances.
This only served to intensify her passion for art.

Primarily self-thought, in recent years she studied Art, Design and Sculpture, giving here a firm foundation on which to develop her artistic talent.

She works mainly in Acrylics, as well as mixed media collage, using the
'booty' collected over the years, from driftwood to telephone
directories, leaves, thread and other 'found objects'. Finding
inspiration in the beautiful wild surroundings of the West of Ireland
where she currently lives, as well as her past, subconscious and dreams,
her work is varied; figurative, portraiture, landscape, abstract and
surreal - as eclectic a mix as her life.

Her influences are
many: Modigliani, Picasso and their fellow 'Bohemian' painters, Frida
Kahlo, Dorothea Tanning and the Surrealist & SYmbolist movements,
along with Sculptors; Antony Gormley, Barbera Hepworth and Andy
Goldsworthy, plus many others from all types of artistic expression.

As a practising artist working from her own studio, her motivation is
two-pronged; self expression - much of her work is cathartic, based on
life experiences and for personal satisfaction - and developing her
expertise to broaden her work range with a view to an artistic career,
sales and recognition.
