The Courthouse Gallery Parliament Street, Ennistymon presents 'Cyclopes' new work by Ben Reilly. An exhibition of Sculptures and Prints from JAN 14 – FEB 9th 2012, OPENING Saturday 14TH January at 2pm.
Cyclopes: One eyed monstrous creatures in Greek mythology that stumbled around eating humans and generally causing a lot of disturbance. “Recently I found myself in a similar situation in terms of the stumbling around and with only one eye bit after being diagnosed with Glaucoma. Some of the work in this exhibition especially the more recent pieces are influenced by this latest development”. Ben Reilly.
Ben Reilly graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 1987. He went on to receive a degree in Archaeology from University College Cork in 1995, and an MA Fine Art Sculpture from Winchester School of Art, UK in 1999. He is currently Lecturer (Fine Art) at Waterford Institute of Technology. He has acted as Visiting Lecturer for St Johns Central College, Cork; Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork; Limerick School of Art & Design and Michigan State College U.S.A. A recent solo show, Balaclava, exhibited at Limerick Printmakers Gallery (2008). Group shows include Prints from Ireland, Horace Mann Gallery NY and Donkey Mill Art Centre, Hawaii (2008) and Origin: a group show, Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford (2007). The artist’s work can be seen in a number of collections including, University College Cork; University College Dublin; Crawford Art Gallery, Cork; the Office of Public Works; The Presidents Office, Phoenix Park, Dublin and Office of the Mayor of René, France.
