Ellen (Nell) Galvin as she was locally known was born Ellen McCarthy, and lived at Ballydineen, Knockalough, Co. Clare. She was born in 1887. Around the 1920’s and 1930’s a famous blind Piper named Garret Barry lived in Inagh Co. Clare. He was a regular visitor to the McCarthy home. Nell was one of his pupils and she played both the Concertina and Fiddle from a very young age.

Carrigaholt, a destination point on the Wild Atlantic Way is one of those traditional fishing villages and it couldn’t be more perfect as a setting for the celebration of Seafood on The Loop Head Peninsula. Every September the village celebrates its long history with the sea with Seafood in September. The festival began as a gathering of local people at the end of a busy summer season but has grown into something that attracts tourist’s interested in yummy seafood in a friendly atmosphere
