The prestigious annual award, named after Clare’s cultural ambassador and visionary, Muiris Ó Rocháin, is sponsored by glór and developed in partnership with Dr. Tim Collins who is an adviser to glór and coordinated the original concert in 2013.
glór’s annual award to celebrate outstanding contribution to traditional music has this year been awarded to Frank Custy.
Born in Dysart in the Ruane parish of Co. Clare, as a teacher, Frank inspired many people to take up music, and Toonagh National School became renowned for its promotion of traditional Irish music and singing. Sean Conway and Mary Custy are just two of those who learned their craft at the school while Sharon and Gary Shannon also learned their trades during the classes organised outside school hours.
