Ennis Friary

Ennis Friary

One of Ireland’s oldest Franciscan friaries, Ennis Friary was founded in the 1240’s and is the burial place of the O’Brien and MacMahon families who were the ancient Kings and chieftains of Clare. Visitors can view the friary’s famous medieval sculptures and there are regular guided tours exploring the site’s history, archaeology and architecture. No visit to Ennis would be complete without a visit to the town’s oldest building.
