Tourism and retail activity in Ennis is set to be transformed with the launch yesterday of a phone app that is both a local directory and an ever-growinglist of exciting shopping vouchers.

With approximately 30,000 smartphone users in the greater Ennis area, the Ennis App heralds a new era in how local services and shopping offers are accessed.

The App is available now for free download from the itunes store, android market or Alternatively, phone owners can simply use the QR code on any of the promotional posters, stickers, coffee cups or beer mats around the town.

The Ennis App is the brainchild of the Promote Ennis project which is jointly funded by local business, Ennis Town Council and Shannon Development. Speaking at yesterday’s launch, Promote Ennis Chairperson and President of Ennis Chamber, Brian O Neill said, "This is a great example of Ennis putting its best foot forward for the benefit of both locals and visitors. It is not only a boost to local shopping, the Ennis App will also be the window to our world for anyone thinking of visiting Ennis and the tourist industry. It perfectly complements the work of the website”

Mayor of Ennis, Peter Considine, believes the App will be a great help to business and tourism in the town, “The Ennis App highlights the great value in the town and will give a boost to retailers. It will also help locals and visitors to access vital services and amenities. I am delighted to see Ennis leading the way again in information technology.”

The Ennis App has been developed by Acton BV, a leading internet consultancy based in Ennis, employing nine people at the Information Age Park. Project Coordinator, Celeste Bernard, has been working with local businesses and services to get everything ready for the launch, “The enthusiasm amongst businesses to date has been phenomenal. I’d like to thank all those who helped generate content and devise great shopping offers. We will be working with all these retailers and new ones to keep the Ennis App fresh and a must-use tool for the consumer in Ennis.”

The benefits of the App are potentially global for Ennis, according to Shannon Development’s Siobhán King, “This will be a great tool at overseas trade shows and promotions. It will be used extensively to showcase the town to decision-makers in the tourism industry.”
