Malbay Films have produced this feature length documentary in association with Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy and is dedicated to the memory of Muiris Ó Rócháin. The film captures the essence of the summer school by capturing the ethos on which it was started, a non competitive forum for students of all levels to learn Irish traditional music on traditional instrumentation. The film portrays the characteristic spirit of the Willie Clancy week as it has come to be known and through extensive interviews with musicians, enthusiasts and people that knew Willie Clancy and played music with him we get a complete picture of how it all came about.

The documentaries engine room is the revealing insights gained from hours of interviews with the local people, musicians, students, teachers and the staff of the summer school edited in a way that retains those intangible qualities that make something incredibly special. Legendary performances from Irelands top musicians run right throughout the film and are equally balanced with the humility with which these people present themselves by speaking in reverental awe of players that have influenced them and those that have long passed on. The roots of tradition are visually abundant with unobtrusive camera work showing the learning and playing of old and newly composed tunes by people both young and old. The history, culture and heritage of the Willie Clancy week in Miltown Malbay has been successfully encapsulated in a film that is as visually powerful as the soundtrack is outstanding.

This documentary has captured the love for music that is endemic in Co. Clare since time immemorial. The unwavering love that its people have always had for there culture and heritage and how that has transmitted to the four corners of the world. It portrays a global community who's vocal point is the music of Willie Clancy, his successors and those that have come after him to kneel at the altar of the traditional note. Its an audio visual representation of the power that music holds over each and every person whose heart is open to it. Music flows through West Clare like a river and this film is a little light floating upon it that allows us to look into the magic beneath the surface. The 40th Anniversary Documentary was made with the same love, enthusiasm, spirit and energy that the Scoil Samhraidh was set up with and it will forever be visited for reference, enjoyment and inspiration for future generations.
