In Dublin last Monday night, The Dining Room at Gregans Castle Hotel was the delighted winner of The Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Fine Dining. Owner Simon Haden accepted the award at the ceremony in the ballroom of The Shelbourne Hotel. Sarah Grennan, editor of Hotel & Catering Review and chair of the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards Jury said "Our judges were bowled over by the magical cuisine served in this idyllic hideaway in the Burren. An exciting menu showcasing the best of local produce was served with real panache. Gregans Castle has the wow factor, and its restaurant is set to become one of Ireland’s greatest culinary stars."

Gregans fought off stiff competition which included finalists Thornton’s Restaurant in Dublin and Dunbrody Country House in Wexford. We are thrilled to be recognised as the top fine dining restaurant in Ireland. This award acknowledges not only the quality of the food but the outstanding service and our unique ambience. We are very grateful and would like to thank our excellent staff who as always have put in an enormous amount of effort this year. Gregans Castle was also proud to be one of the finalists for the Country Houses & Guesthouses Award.

This award follows The Food & Wine Magazine Awards in August where Gregan’s Chef Mickael Viljanen was rated 6th best chef in Ireland and the 2nd in the Munster region”.

Gregans was also delighted to receive the following endorsement from Ireland's top TV Chef, Darina Allen (of Ballymaloe fame) in The Examiner newspaper on September 12th - “Chef Mickael Viljanen’s food is really making waves at Gregans Castle at the edge of the Burren in Co. Clare. It’s well worth making the detour to taste his food, and while you are there stay the night in the lovely country house hotel”.

Earlier this year after a visit to Gregans Castle Hotel by John McKenna one of Ireland's top food critics John wrote the following blog entry entitled "Is this the best cooking in Ireland?" He goes on to say "Put this class of food into what is perhaps the leading country house in Ireland at the moment, thanks to Simon Haden's service and Freddy McMurray's design aesthetic, and you have a truly incredible experience. Don't waste any time in getting to Corkscrew Hill in The Burren to sample something extraordinary".
