This fort was home to the famous O'Dabhoireann Law School. The O'Dabhoireann's were the hereditary legal family of the Burren. From their base in Cahermacnaughten they helped to maintain the Brehon tradition in the west of Ireland.

Cahermore stone fort is located near the Ailwee caves on the road from Ballyvaughan to Caherconnell. It is one of the forts in the Burren which was most likely occupied until late medieval times.
