Shannon Leisure Centre started life around about 1970 as a community venture to provide an indoor heated swimming pool. The Community ethos and commitment continues today as Shannon Leisure Centre is run by and for the community. Situated in the heart of Shannon Town, Shannon Leisure Centre offers a wide range of sport, recreation and leisure activities for all members of the community in Shannon and surrounding areas.
Shannon Leisure Centre is a Company limited by guarantee and has charitable status (Charity Number GS 329). The Board is made up of six directors who are from the community and bring a range of complementary skills and experience to the running of the centre including banking, construction, business, healthcare, public service and trade union movement.
The majority of our customers come from Shannon Town, the wider Shannon Area and County Clare. We also cater for organisations and individuals from Limerick City and County, nationwide primary schools (school tours) and tourists to the area. The climbing wall, for example, has been used by groups of children from the Limerick re-generation areas who have had difficulty in accessing other facilities. Our swimming academy has an excellent reputation throughout the Region and is well established.
Shannon Leisure Centre operates an open door policy; the only condition is that the rules are obeyed. These rules apply without fear or favour to all patrons.
Patrons can choose from a range of payment options depending on their preference or financial circumstances. They may pay as they go for the facility they wish to use or take out membership of the entire or part of the complex for periods of 3, 6, or 12 months.
