Artist, Author and naturalist Carmel T. Madigan has a long ancestral linkage to Loophead spanning over three hundred years. This has lead to a deep understanding and love of the environment which surrounds her and which influences her art, poetry and writings. Having researched the flora of the Western Peninsula Region across its various habitats, Carmel wrote and published the book 'The Wild flowers of Loophead' in 2012. Carmel now offers botanical Guided walking tours which also dip into the historical heritage of the area, with which she is so familiar. The wonderful high season hedgerows of the Peninsula are analysed as she leads her walkers through an atmospheric, treeless open environment filled with the grandeur of nature and hints of history.
